The benefits of being
an AFS exchange student last the rest of your life.
- Your selection for
AFS and the achievement of living and studying overseas become assets that
are highly regarded in your personal and professional life.
- You gain emotional
maturity. After adjusting and living in another country, you will have developed
skills to cope with future challenges.
- You develop independence
and self-awareness. Making decisions on your own away from home gives you
confidence in yourself and your abilities.
- You gain useful knowledge
for your later academic and professional careers. You learn about your host
country and master its language.
- You expand your interests
and experiences. These may confirm your chosen career or introduce you to
new possibilities.
- You learn about yourself
and about Hong Kong, seeing both through overseas eyes.
- You become part of
a global network with family and friends in another country and friendships
with fellow AFS students from other parts of the world.
School
Considerations
It is true that the exchange
may interrupt your schooling at home though you will still attend school overseas.
It is also true that an AFS exchange is an educational experience and, during
your time away, your education will be enormously broadened. AFS exchange
students gain much more in emotional maturity than their peers who do not
have an AFS experience. Emotional maturity is fast becoming accepted as one
of the important predicators to success. On average AFS returnees achieve
high marks in their final year of school.
